New Year's News from The Archives
Hello lovely readers,
I hope you and yours have had a wonderful holiday season—or just a lovely few months if you don’t celebrate—and I hope the new year is gentle to you and deeply uneventful in all the right ways.
The Archives have been a bit quiet here as of late as I’ve been working on preparing quite a few things. I think it’ll still be a little while before I can get enough of the poltergeists and little aethernet demons out of the cables and the nooks and crannies of the stacks for it to be suitible for living visitors, but in the meantime, I have a few things I can share.
Much of the work I’ve been doing related to The Archives over the last year has been internal—learning and experimenting and figuring out the kinds of stories, art, and other creative things I want to share with you all.
The Silas Archives (and subsequently The Penny Dreadful) was borne from a love of The Carmilla Series, and my fascination around the intersection of queerness and vampires in literature and storytelling, but I’ve found in recent months that I don’t want to limit The Silas Archives to such a specific topic. While our favorite Broody Gay Vampire laid the groundwork for this endeavor, I want to expand into different topics and mediums as this project develops.
Rest assured, this is in regards specifically to The Silas Archives as the parent project—The Penny Dreadful (our first companion project) will stay exactly as it is, a place to read spooky tales together.
I have many ideas in development—some in progress, and some still flailing in the aether looking for something to latch onto—but I do have one idea that has made landfall and settled nicely into its foundation:
The Silas Archives Print Shop
I have been an artist since I could pick up a pencil, and recently I’ve tried my hand at some graphic typography using quotes from Carmilla, as well as some other whimsical vampiric designs. In the future I plan on adding some original paintings, but so far, here’s a little glimpse of what lies in wait in the print shop:
You lovely readers have been so kind to me and receptive of The Penny Dreadful, and I want to give something back to you all as a thank you.
For the month of January, I’m running a 10% off sale on my entire shop, only for Penny Dreaful subscribers with the code 2JCRKMT8
Inprnt is a fantastic dropship service for fine art, graphic design, illustration, and photography. They are located in the US with great payout rates for the artists (while keeping the print prices reasonable) and gorgeous products. I have quite a few prints from various artists via Inprnt in my collection, and they’re absolutely beautiful.
If you’d like some spooky queer art to adorn your walls, take a gander—and please do make use of that discount code. It’s my way of saying thank you for an incredible start to what will hopefully become an expansive and delightful Archive.
Thank you again for sticking around to read with us, and I hope to welcome you into The Silas Archives proper soon.
Happy New Year,
The Archivist
